Exiles not getting carried away with recent form

Player/coach Brendan Venter insisted London Irish will not get carried away with their second major scalp in a week after they ran in seven tries to beat Saracens 13-55 on Thursday night. Venter claims Francois Pienaar's side were not at full strength and when the two sides meet again over Christmas, it will be a different matter altogether.

The Exiles now jump up to second in the Zurich Premiership table as a result of their emphatic victory, but Ventor insisted: "This is not a Saracens full side. They have had a lot of injuries and lots of young players have been called up to the side because of the Autumn internationals. Let us not get carried away with this victory because when we play Saracens again on December 22nd, they will be a lot better. It is a good victory for us, but we must stay realistic about what we are achieving at the moment."

Saracens boss Pienaar was, however, full of praise for his former Springbok team-mate who has rejuvenated the Madejski Stadium club this term. He admitted: "London Irish are now a very accomplished side who play great rugby week in, week out. Brendan deserves to take away this victory. We deserved to lose it, but it hurts."
