The Six Nations could be set for its biggest overhaul since the introduction of the Italian side, as the organisers seek to raise its profile and generate more revenue. Senior figures within the organisation are believed to be considering a number of radical proposals, including the possibility of staging games on Friday nights.
The tournament got back underway on Saturday, with Scotland's 32-10 trouncing of Ireland. The Six Nations had been interrupted by the foot-and-mouth crisis in Britain earlier this year. Sunday games have proved to be a turn-off with fans, and officials are understood to be interested in transforming the structure of Europe's premier rugby competition.
Six Nations chairman, Allan Hosie, revealed that discussions were being conducted regarding change. He said: "We have consulted a wide range of people and some have been quite positive about Friday nights."
"I would not discount it, it is not beyond the realms of possibility. I want to keep open all the doors and explore every avenue. We are not going to change for the sake of change but we cannot afford to stand still."
