Former England rugby star Jeremy Guscott has separated from his wife, his lawyer said tonight. Guscott, 36, was married to his wife Jayne for 10 years after they met in a Bath nightclub.
A statement issued tonight through his solicitor said: ‘Mr Guscott would like to say on behalf of himself and his wife Jayne that, `this is an amicable separation with us maintaining our friendship and that at this difficult time we ask to you to respect our privacy and to deal with this sensitively for the sake of our three young children'.
Bath-born Guscott scored 30 tries for England after securing 65 caps for the team. His finest moment arguably came when he scored a drop goal in 1997 to clinch a series win for the British Lions against South Africa in Durban. Guscott notched 140 tries for Bath, his club rugby side, after making his debut in 1985.
In 1999, he was cleared by a jury of assaulting a pedestrian during an alleged road rage attack. Since quitting international rugby, Guscott has appeared as a presenter in ITV game show Gladiators and fitness show Body Heat. He has three young daughters, Imogen, Holly and Saskia.
