Lions Test to be played under closed roof

The Lions’ second Test match against Australia on Saturday will be played under a closed roof at Melbourne's Colonial Stadium. Although the Lions have expressed some concern with this decision, Australian Rugby Union officials have refused to change their minds on the issue. According to reports, Wallabies coach Rod Macqueen requested for the roof to be kept closed because of the threat of rain this weekend.

Despite some speculation that the move is an effort to generate more atmosphere in the stadium for the home nation following the thunderous support from the 15,000-strong travelling Lions fans which was instrumental in the Lions first Test victory, ARU chief executive John O'Neill insists there is no agenda behind the move.

"The host union believes the roof should be closed, it is not the host union looking for an unfair advantage, but instead providing the best match conditions for both sides, as well as enhancing the spectacle of what will be a brilliant Test," said O’Neill.
