Greening injured in training

England hooker Phil Greening could miss out on playing in the Lions' Test matches against Australia after he injured his knee in training today. Greening is not included in the team for tomorrow's opening Tour game against Western Australia but was hopeful of making the team for the first Test match against the Wallabies on June 30. However, his latest injury could prove detrimental to his chances of playing any part in this year's Tour.

"Phil damaged a knee during this afternoon's training session, and the extent of it is currently being assessed by the Lions medical team," confirmed Lions manager Donal Lenihan. "Phil has been taken for an MRI scan. When the extent of the injury is clear, a further update will be given," he added.

If it turns out that Greening's injury is as serious as feared, Scotland's Gordon Bulloch is expected to be first choice replacement. The results of the scan are expected tomorrow and Greening has returned to the Lions' team hotel in Fremantle to rest.
