Young Munster edge closer to play-offs

Young Munster went on a try scoring spree today at Dooradoyle to clinch a victory, and a try scoring bonus point, that could well see them through to the knock-out stages of the All Ireland League.

Garryowen were lacking discipline from the very start and Mike Lynch punished them with three early penalties. Then Mutu Ngarimu forced over for a try with the aid of his forwards, having seemingly initially being stopped. Lynch converted and Young Munster led 16-0 at the break.

In the second-half Young Munster coach Matt TePou somehow ran 35 yards to the corner to score a terrific solo effort. Ten minutes from the end Peter Clohessy drove over, and there was still time for further salt to be applied to Garryowen's wounds with two late tries from Mike Mullins and Finbar Hogan. Young Munster will be hoping that victory in their last match against Belfast Harlequins will see them through to the play-offs, while this defeat ends Garryowen's hopes of making it, but such an embarrassing defeat in a local derby may be even harder to stomach.
