South African coach succeeds Williams in Ulster

Ulster have appointed Alan Solomons as their new interprovincial coach. Solomons is a former assistant coach to the South African team and will take over from Harry Williams when Ulster's current European Cup campaign comes to an end. Solomons beat off the challenge from former Irish International Willie Anderson as well as Ballymena's Andre Bester. Munster's Declan Kidney is now the only Irish coach in charge of a provincial side.

Meanwhile, it is expected that the Welsh Rugby Union will give its approval to the proposed Celtic League tonight, although this may not be made

public for a few weeks yet. The participation of the Irish provinces, along with the two Scottish super districts Glasgow Caledonians and Edinburgh Reivers has already being confirmed and all that remains right now is the green light from the Welsh Union. Already the IRFU has incorporated the Celtic League into its fixture list for next season and it is expected to get underway on August 25.
