Greening requires keyhole surgery

England hooker Phil Greening is to have keyhole surgery on his knee next week which could rule him out of the start of the Six Nations campaign in February. The 25-year-old Wasps player has already been ruled out for six weeks with a finger injury he sustained on international duty, for which his club are now seeking compensation.

Greening is hopeful that he will still make the opening game of the new Six Nations campaign. "I hope to be back playing by mid-January. However, the specialist is not sure what he might find once he looks inside. I'm worried that I might not make it for the Six Nations, which would be a real blow. I need to get the knee sorted out once and for all because it's been plaguing me since the end of last season. I've had to have it drained before nearly every game I've played. It's not a healthy situation," he added.
