Scotland coach Ian McGeechan has called for the Six Nations to undergo major changes to prevent burn-out among the players. He thinks the tournament should be spread over a shorter period so that the teams can prepare more thoroughly for the games. "We have got to look at the way the Six Nations games are played. In a perfect world, the games would be back-to-back and then you have the players with you for the whole competition."
McGeechan used the example of Scotland's up-coming home games against USA, Australia and Samoa. "We are treating the series as a tour, which is far better than the Six Nations format. We won't have to worry about what is happening to players between internationals - they won't be playing elsewhere, they will be here," he explained.
