The new Irish rugby team has appointed a new manager, because of the unavailability of Donal Lenihan. The new manager is former international centre Brian O'Brien of Shannon. The former Irish and Lions selector is the current manager of Munster, and managed the Irish under 21 team from 1992 to '94. O'Brien succeeds Donal Lenihan who has stepped down to concentrate on his duties as manager of the Lions tour to Australia next year.
A former Irish International centre who was capped against France, England and Scotland in the 1967-68 season he is also a member of Shannon since he started playing and has been involved with managing and coaching sides in the club. He was three times club president between 1984 and 1986.
