Former Ireland international Jean Kleyn has been named in the South Africa squad for Saturday's Rugby World Cup Pool B meeting between the sides, with the Munster lock among seven forwards on the Springbok bench.
Rassie Erasmus and Jacques Nienaber have recreated the 7:1 bench split of forwards and backs that polarised opinion after their 35-7 win against New Zealand in August.
Kleyn, who won five caps for Ireland in 2019, and his Munster teammate RG Snyman are named together on the bench and will supplement starting locks Franco Mostert and Eben Etzebeth, with Etzebeth having recovered from a shoulder injury to take his place in the team.
Siya Kolisi captains the world champions at blindside flanker and is joined by Pieter-Steph du Toit and Jasper Wiese in a combative back row.
Ulster-bound Steven Kitshoff starts as expected at loosehead, along with Frans Malherne and Bongi Mbonambi in the front row.
The South African backline is identical to their opening game against Scotland, with Faf de Klerk at scrum-half where he's partnered by Manie Libbok, and new call-up Handre Pollard not included in the matchday squad.
Cheslin Kolbe and Kurt-Lee Arendse start on the wings, with the versatile Damian Willemse named at full-back, and a midfield pairing of Damian de Allende and Jesse Kriel.
Deon Fourie is named as Mbonambi's back-up at hooker, with Ox Nche and Trevor Nyakane the other front row replacements. In addition to Kleyn and Snyman, Marco van Staden and Kwagga Smith are also on the bench with Cobus Reinach the only recognised back among the eight substitutes.
"Ireland are a quality team with a strong pack of forwards and talented backs, and they play with a lot of speed, so we know what we have to do to deliver a top-drawer performance for things to go our way," said Nienaber.
"We faced them late last year and we've been keeping an eye on their performances this year, so everyone knows what we have to do this weekend."
