Argentina all but secured their place in the Rugby World Cup quarter-final with a bonus point win over Tonga in Leicester on Sunday.
The win lifts the Pumas above Tonga to second place in Pool C, with the Pacific Islanders yet to play group leaders and defending champions New Zealand.
Argentina need only beat the group’s whipping boys Namibia to seal their passage to the last eight.
They subdued Tonga's physicality and flair to claim 29-point win in an entertaining clash.
Tongan centre Siale Piutau had said the his side's ‘wolf pack mentality’ would hound the Pumas into submission.
They certainly gave as good as they got in a free-flowing first half to trail 20-13 at the break, with two tries apiece.
Ultimately, however, Argentina fly half Nicolas Sanchez proved the difference.
He tormented Tonga with the boot and ball in hand, weighing in with 25 points from four penalties, four conversions and one of the Pumas' five tries.
They won in front of Argentina soccer great Diego Maradona, a World Cup winner in 1986, who led the chanting from the stands.
Juan Imhoff became the Pumas’ top RWC try-scorer of all-time when he crossed the whitewash.
Kurt Morath missed four kicks for Tonga, including two when they were only seven points down in the second half.
Sanchez then stuck a penalty through the posts to put ten between the teams before Argentina hit cruise control in the final minutes thanks to tries from Julian Montoya and Santiago Cordero.
Both sides were eyeing qualification ahead of the game and Tonga named the oldest starting side in World Cup history at 31 years and 38 days.
