Tokyo Olympic Games bronze medallist Aifric Keogh has announced her retirement from international rowing.

Four years ago, the 32-year-old from Galway finished third in the women's four alongside Emily Hegarty, Eimear Lambe and Fiona Murtagh. It was Ireland's first female rowing podium place at an Olympics.

Last summer, she teamed up with Murtagh to compete in the pair event at the Paris Games; they qualified the Irish boat by finishing fourth in the 2023 World Championships. The duo failed to progress from the 'A' semi-finals and finished second in the 'B' final.

Keogh also won European Championship silver (2021 and 2022) and bronze (2020) medals.

Writing on social media, she said: "If you told the 12-year-old girl who took up rowing at the Jes that she'd still be rowing 20 years later she definitely would not have believed you.

"I feel truly honoured to have been a part of Rowing Ireland and Team Ireland at a point in history when we've had such great success.

"Thank you to those who supported me along the way.

"It's been hard to step away but the time feels right. Slán go fóill."
