The Ireland's women's four team finished fifth in their European Rowing Championships final in Bled, Slovenia on Saturday morning.

The Irish team won bronze at Tokyo 2020, with Olympic medallists Aifric Keogh, Eimear Lambe and Fiona Murtagh joined by Tara Hanlon, who replaced Emily Hegarty in the event last year.

They had secured their place in the A final after finishing third in Friday morning's repechage.

Great Britain set a scorching early pace but they were pipped by the fast-finishing Romanians, with the Dutch taking bronze.

In the lightweight women's double sculls A final, Aoife Casey and Margaret Cremen also came home in fifth.

Great Britain dictated throughout, confidently powering to victory ahead of Greece and France.

Fintan McCarthy and Hugh Moore were sixth in the men's lightweight double sculls A final.

The Irishmen went from lane one in an extremely competitive race.

Switzerland set the early pace, leading the way at the 500m mark. As they sought to eke out clear water, the Greeks and dangerous Italians positioned themselves within striking distance.

By the 1500m mark, the Swiss, Italians and Greeks had pulled away from the rest, with McCarthy and Moore part of a lagging trio alongside Ukraine and Czech Republic.

Switzerland left enough in the tank to surge to gold, Italy taking silver and Greece bagging bronze.

Earlier, Philip Doyle and Daire Lynch booked their place in the men's double A final after finishing second in their semi-final.
