Paul O'Donovan and Fintan McCarthy put the cherry on top of a remarkable few weeks by claiming victory in their Double Sculls Challenge Cup final at the Henley Regatta.

Representing both the Skibbereen Rowing Club and UCC, the Olympic gold-winning lightweight duo eased to success on Sunday, with O'Donovan saying afterwards they'd "peaked".

"The Olympics is in the past now and as we've been banging on about all week, this is the higlight of our season. I think we peaked on the day fortunately.

"We've had some tough racing all week. It's a good standard here in Henley which is why we like to come here.

"We'll come back here as often as ye'll have us."

The duo will head for the Irish National Championships next weekend at the National Rowing Centre, where they will go up against each other in the men's single sculls.
