Gary O'Donovan made it to the quarter-finals of the lightweight single sculls at the World Rowing Championships in Austria on Monday.

The Skibbereen man finished in first place in the repechage , three seconds ahead of boats from Brazil, Sweden, Belgium and Uruguay to advance to Wednesday's next stage.

Hugh Sutton, Ryan Ballantine, Miles Taylor, and Jake McCarthy will be aiming to book their place in the lightweight quadruple sculls 'A' final tomorrow after finishing fourth in their heat this morning.

The M2 crew of Mark O’Donovan and Shane O’Driscoll will race in the 'E' final on Thursday after narrowly missing out on a top two finish behind Greece and Chile.
