Paul and Gary Donovan had to settle for double sculls runners-up in the final of the Henley Regatta on Sunday, as British pair Jack Beaumont and Angus Groom eased to victory on the River Thames.
The Cork brothers won their semi-final yesterday, eclipsing the Romanian heavyweight crew of Ioan Prundeanu and Marian-Florian Enache.
However they were never able to mount a serious challenge in scorching heat against another heavyweight crew, with Beaumont and Groom taking a comprehensive win.
The O'Donovans won lightweight silver at the Rio Games in 2016.
Congrats to @BritishRowing heavyweights Angus Groom & Jack Beaumont, winners of the Double Sculls trophy @HenleyRegatta beating @skibbrowing & @RowingIreland lightweights Paul & Gary O’Donovan into second place on their debut trip to the world famous regatta. Impressive racing 💪
