Rower Sanita Puspure has become the latest addition to Ireland's Olympic team after a superb performance in the final qualifying regatta in Switzerland today.
The Irish single sculler finished second in the final in Lucerne, coming from fifth at the halfway mark of the 2,000-metre race to comfortably claim one of the four Rio spots on offer.
The 34-year-old kept her powder dry early in the race, hitting the 500m and 1,000m marks in fifth place.
But Puspure showed her class in the second half of the race, overtaking Ukraine and Belarus by 1,500m and also seeing off the fast-starting Danish rower Fie Erichsen to claim second place in a time of 7:24.76.
The race was won by hot favourite Emma Twigg of New Zealand, with Belarus and Denmark claiming the final Olympic places behind Puspure.
The Cork-based rower becomes the third Irish boat heading to Rio, joining lightweight men's double scull of Paul and Gary O'Donovan and lightweight women's double sculler Sinead Lynch and Claire Lambe.
