Ireland's Shane O’Driscoll and Mark O’Donovan have finished seventh in the the lightweight men's pair at the World Rowing Championships in France after winning the B final in Aiguebelette this morning.

The two Corkmen took over the lead just before halfway and held off challenges by the Czech Republic and Spain.

The Spanish charged up to the line and were beaten by Ireland by just 0.15 of a second.

Sanita Puspure finished fifth in the women’s singles semi-final and will contest the B final on Sunday.

A top-three place in the final will qualify here for Rio 2016.

Ireland’s women’s four were fifth in their final. The race was won by the United States, with Britain taking silver and China bronze.

The men’s and women’s lightweight double sculls compete tomorrow in the B finals, and a place in the top five will be enough for them to secure Olympic qualification.
