Both Ireland lightweight double sculls qualified for the semi-finals at the World Rowing Championships in Aiguebelette, France, today.

Sinead Jennings and Claire Lambe took second in their quarter-final, and Paul O’Donovan and Gary O’Donovan took third. They beat New Zealand to the final qualification spot with a fast finish.

Both crews are in the top 12, and a top 11 spot will qualify the boats for the Olympic Games.

The Ireland women’s double of Helen Hannigan and Lisa Dilleen fought hard to qualify from their repechage, but finished fourth, with just two semi-final places available.
