This was a very tight race until the halfway point, where Ireland took control and saw off Czech Republic and Austria to progress to the A/B semi-finals at Lake Aiguebelette.

Denise Walsh finished fourth in her repechage of the lightweight single sculls and will compete in the C/D semi-finals on Thursday afternoon.

Karol Doherty finished fourth in his repechage of the arms and shoulders single sculls and is set for the C/D semi-finals.

Six Irish crews in total race on Wednesday, with the lightweight men and women competing in the quarter-finals they directly qualified for, along with Sanita Puspure in the single sculls.

The women’s double have a repechage to contest, while the women’s four have their first race and a chance to fight for the best lanes for the final on Friday, as this event has a total of just five entries.
