The Irish lightweight team won their World Rowing Championship heat in Amsterdam to qualify for the semi-finals.

Mark O'Donovan and Niall Kenny beat off the challenge of reigning world and European champions Switzerland, and China to make Thursday semis.

Meanwhile, the women’s double scull of Monika Dukarska and Helen Walshe finished fourth in their heat and will now race in the repechage on Wednesday at 15.50.

In the women’s four category, Ireland had to settle for fifth and go into the repechage on Wednesday at 15:32. 

Tomorrow the Irish team have one race scheduled: the women’s lightweight double of Claire Lambe and Denise Walsh will race at 16.25.
