Ireland's Paul O'Donovan has won a bronze medal at the World Under-23 Rowing Championships in Linz, Austria.

The 19-year-old Skibbereen man, a scholarship student at UCD, was in the top three from early on in the final of the lightweight single sculls.

The race was won by American prodigy Andrew Campbell Junior, while Franciscus Goutier of the Netherlands held off O'Donovan's challenge for silver.

Meanwhile, Ireland's Denise Walsh finished sixth in the women's lightweight single sculls final.
