John Keohane from Kilmacsimon Swimming & Rowing Club in Cork won the gold medal in the Single Sculls at the FISA World Coastal Rowing Championships 2010 in Istanbul.

Having won his heat, Keohane led the field for most of the final finishing in a time of 37 minutes 13 seconds, some 20 seconds ahead of his nearest rival.

2010 has been a successful year for the new world champion.
In July, Keohane represented Ireland for the first time in the Home Country International Event at the National Rowing Centre in Cork securing medals in the Single Sculls and Quad Sculls races.

This was followed in August when he was part of the four-man team that won gold in the Senior Men's race at the All Ireland Coastal Rowing Championships held in Aghada, Co Cork. The winning team also included David Duggan, Eoin O’Neill, and Denis O’Donovan and was coxed by Robert Farrissey. Another gold medal was won in the Intermediate Single Sculls at the National Championships.
