The Irish men's lightweight four of Gearoid Towey, Eugene Coakley, Richard Archibald and Paul Griffin have qualified for a place in the World Championship final by taking third in today's semi-final in Eton, England.
Defending world champions France won the semi-final, recording a time of 6.10.32, Britain finished just under half a second down in second with the Irish quartet another half a second down in third.
China won the second semi-final again by the tightest of margins with the Australian four taking the final qualifying spot. The final of the lightweight four takes place at 2.15pm on Sunday.
Earlier, the lightweight women's double of Sinéad Jennings and Niamh NiCheilleachair lost out on a place in the final by finishing fifth in their semi-final.
The Irish duo started slowly and despite a huge push were unable to make up the lost ground. They now go forward to the B final on Sunday morning for places seven to twelve.
