The Charlie Appleby-trained 5-1 chance travelled patiently in mid-division and eventually mounted a late challenge in the hands of William Buick to reel in runaway leader Roman Empire.
Megallan was the runner up at 14-1, with Aidan O'Brien’s 13-8 favourite High Definition coming home in third as he finished to eyecatching effect.
Roman Empire clung on for fourth under Hollie Doyle, who was having her first ride for Ballydoyle.
Beasley said: "The boss and the team have got him in good order there, he ran a mighty race round Chester only last week.
"Obviously it’s easy, slower ground today and that played to his strengths – he did the job really well.
"I just got a bit checked there at the two and half (furlong) pole, but once I got him back in a rhythm and back on an even keel, he went and did the job nicely."
Kynren challenged on the near side to take the Matchbook Betting Podcast Hambleton Handicap in the hands of Connor Beasley.
The David Barron-trained seven-year-old travelled at the back of the field and was pulled out wide to swoop past his rivals.
Leading on the opposite rail was 7-2 favourite Brunch, who was just passed by the 17-2 winner on the line, with a neck the winning margin.
Stoute’s assistant James Horton said: "She’s been a very unlucky filly ever since this weekend at Newbury two years ago where she impressive in the Oaks trial there.
"She’s hit the crossbar a lot and there’s been a lot of work gone into her at home. She’s sometimes not straightforward, but we’re just delighted everything has fallen into place today."
De Sousa said: "I’m very pleased, she’s run a couple of good races and knocked on the door a few times.
"She got her head in front today, it was a nice performance for Michael and she likes the ground.
"Sometimes she can be a bit hot, it was absolutely perfect going a nice even gallop."
