Racing off in Clonmel and Limerick after heavy rain

Today's scheduled meetings at Clonmel and tomorrow's at Limerick have been cancelled after heavy rain overnight rain.

A statement from the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board said that 17mm of rain had fallen at Clonmel and that the course was unfit for racing.

Clerk of the course Lorcan Wyer said on Twitter that efforts were underway to reschedule the fixture but that the weather forecast over the next week was "not encouraging" with further rain expected.

Following 21mm of rain overnight, Limerick is now waterlogged and unfit for racing on Friday.

With a forecast for a further 12-15mm of rain prior to racing, the fixture scheduled has been cancelled.

Due to the current weather forecast there will be an 8am inspection at Gowran Park tomorrow (Friday), ahead of the fixture scheduled to take place on Saturday 20 January.

The ground at Gowran Park is currently heavy with a forecast of up to 40mm of rain prior to racing.

Horse Racing Ireland have also announced three fixture-list alterations for April.

  • Tipperary Thursday 22 April (evening) transferred to Tuesday 20 April (evening)
  • Navan Saturday 24 April (afternoon) transferred to Sunday 25 April (afternoon)
  • Naas Monday 26 April (evening) now becomes an afternoon fixture
