Galway Plate day. It looks a high quality renewal. As you would hope. Winning connections are set for a six figure payday. The undercard is underwhelming. Then there's the mares' bumper! A good drop of rain is forecast from lunchtime onwards. We're probably looking at yielding ground.
4.45 pm Tote Jackpot Novice Hurdle: The Very Man needs a stiffer test of stamina than this race provides. Expect a positive ride from Davy Russell. This horse, like almost all the progeny of Jeremy, has a very willing attitude. He will be hard to pass. Getaway Gorgeous is a pretty smart mare. In receipt of 10 pounds, she's feared most.
Selection: The Very Man 7/4
5.15 pm Irish Stallion Farms Mares Handicap Hurdle: Rescue Package stuck on well to win in Kilbeggan last time out. That reads like solid form. A mark of 118 probably underestimates this unexposed sort. Upgraded was most impressive in Bellewstown. That despite an iffy round of jumping. If brushing up in that department, she could defy the handicapper.
Selection: Rescue Package 11/1
5.45pm Bet With Tote Maiden Hurdle: Talk Of The Town was a surprise winner on debut. He beat a well regarded stablemate that day and it was a long way back to the third. He should be well schooled for his first run over hurdles. Kaatskill Nap's recent flat comeback was just okay. He's entitled to come on for it though.
Selection: Talk Of The Town 4/1
6.15pm Tote Trifecta Handicap Hurdle: Bold Enough jumped well when getting off the mark in Tipperary last time out. His future lies over fences. It would be no surprise if he were to prove well handicapped over hurdles. Pilbara is well treated under a penalty. Whatever beats him will probably win.
Selection: Bold Enough 8/1
6.45pm Tote Galway Plate: Second season novice chasers dominate the betting here. That's understandable. They have the greatest scope to improve. Easy Game is the most appealing of that group. The form of his narrow loss to Faugheen reads well.
Livelovelaugh rates the selection. This horse doesn't quite see out three miles. His record at intermediate trips is solid. He endured a brutal trip in a hot Cheltenham Festival Handicap last time out. I think he'd have finished second but for a catalogue of misfortune. He looks overpriced.
Selection: Livelovelaugh 20/1
7.15pm Tote Galway Races Handicap: Powersbomb appeals off a reasonable looking handicap mark. He should come on for a recent spin on the flat. Thecraicisninety is climbing the weights without winning. Not ideal. He looks set for a good run all the same.
Selection: Powersbomb 14/1
7.45pm Irish Stallion Farms Mares INH Flat Race: This won't take much winning. More Info came home a distant second last time out in Kilbeggan. A repeat of that form could be enough here. Glan blew out on debut. She did go off favourite. A better run seems likely.
Selection: More Info 4/1
8.15 pm Tote INH Flat Race: Zuma Rock is from a family that Willie Mullins has done well with. Perhaps she can take advantage of the mares allowance, and make a winning debut. Mahons Glory ran to a decent level on debut.
Selection: Zuma Rock 5/4
