Navan offers Tiger Roll chance to build fitness according to Gordon Elliott with Cheltenham on the horizon

The Ladbrokes Boyne Hurdle at Navan next Sunday will be an excellent starting point for Tiger Roll's return to action according to trainer Gordon Elliott.

The four-time Cheltenham winner has had an interrupted preparation this season with a chipped bone.

But while Tiger Roll is unlikely to be as fit as Elliott would like after that setback, he feels Navan will be a good launchpad for his year, having won the Boyne Hurdle last year.

"I suppose fitness is the one worry for Navan but we know there is a lot of improvement in him," he said.

"Cheltenham, obviously the race looks made for him, with a rating like he has.

"And to go back and have another whack at the English Grand National will be second to none.

"So it's one we're really looking forward to."

Elliott paid tribute to Tiger Roll's impact under his stewardship.

"To come across a horse like Tiger Roll at a relatively early stage of my career is something else and to get him back there for a third year would be brilliant," he said.

"But he's a people's horse now and people like to see him.

"It would be great for everyone in Navan to get him there."
