Jockey Jack Kennedy is unlikely to be back in the saddle before the end of the season after undergoing surgery this morning in St Vincent's Hospital for a broken leg.
Kennedy sustained the injury to his femur bone after falling in a handicap chase on Dallas De Pictons yesterday at Leopardstown.
The fall happened shortly after Kennedy had guided Delta Work to victory in the feature race on day two of the Dublin Racing Festival - the Paddy Power Gold Cup.
He was taken to St Vincent's Hospital for an X-ray and further assessment on his right leg, with the unfortunate news later confirmed.
The 20-year-old had only recently recovered from a broken collarbone.
According to his brother and fellow jockey Paddy Kennedy, being realistic, Jack will now miss the festivals at Cheltenham, Aintree and Fairyhouse and more than likely the end of season Punchestown meeting as well.
An update from Dr Jennifer Pugh on the official IHRB Twitter feed on Monday evening read: "Jack has had surgery on his leg this morning and thankfully that went well. Unfortunately at this stage the timing will mean Jack will miss Cheltenham.
"Hopefully he should get home from hospital tomorrow."
