Japanese raider Lys Gracieux claimed the Ladbrokes Cox Plate at Moonee Valley as Irish runner Magic Wand finished fourth.

Trained by Yoshito Yahagi, 6-4 favourite Lys Gracieux was already a dual Group One winner in her home country and she teamed up with Damian Lane.

Ryan Moore was positive from the start on the Aidan O'Brien-trained Magic Wand (8-1) as Lane settled towards the rear of the field on the winner, with British contender Danceteria racing just in front of him.

Magic Wand was still at the front turning for home in the 10-furlong feature, but Lys Gracieux made effortless progress down the outside in company with Castelvecchio (15-2) and pulled a length and half clear at the line.

Te Akau Shark (16-1) was third.

Magic Wand stayed on for fourth, while Danceteria was last of the 14 runners.

His trainer David Menuisier had gained some compensation earlier on the card though, as Chief Ironside won the Group Two Schweppes Mile under Jamie Spencer.

O'Brien and Moore also hit the target on the undercard in a Group Two, with Hunting Horn winning the McCafe Moonee Valley Cup.
