Chris Hayes gave Search For A Song a superb ride as Dermot Weld's filly ran away with the Group 1 Comer Group International Irish St Leger before a big crowd at a rain-lashed Curragh.

Despite the three-year-old filly running far too keen for her rider's liking, Hayes took the bull by the horns and let her stride on into the lead about halfway.

In spite of her early exertions, Hayes had enough horse to kick for home two furlongs out, and she never looked like being caught in the final Classic of the year. She scored by two and a quarter lengths.

Kew Gardens, the second-favourite, stayed on well from out of the pack to chase home the winner, with Southern France running an excellent race in third.

It was a third winner on the weekend for Weld, whose former stable jockey is the man behind today's Pat Smullen Champions Race For Cancer Trials Ireland, run as race seven this afternoon.
