The Irish Oaks is the highlight of a quality two day fixture at the Curragh. Likely ground conditions are something of a quandary. The forecast I use is forecasting 14 millimetres of rain before the meeting starts. That would probably leave the ground on the easy side of good. The good news for racegoers is that it will clear up from tomorrow morning. A day at the track under sunny skies is in prospect.

EBF Maiden (2.15pm)

Those that have run don't set all that high a standard. This will probably go to a newcomer. Iberia appears to be Ballydoyle's number one. He is readily preferred. Ger Lyons has his string in tip top condition. The fact he pitches Agent Zero into a Curragh maiden is probably worth noting. He can chase the selection home.

Selection: Iberia 7/2

EBF Fillies Handicap (2.50pm)

Crafty Madam is taken to follow up on her recent course win. She got eight pounds for that narrow win. Given the second has since gone on to win a stakes race, and it was five lengths back to the third, that probably wasn't excessive.

The extra furlong tomorrow promises to suit. It would be no surprise if Joseph O'Brien continues to eke improvement out of Too Precious. She rates the biggest danger.

Selection: Crafty Madam 10/3

Scurry Handicap (3.25pm)

Ice Cold In Alex should run well in a very competitive race. An extended six furlongs, with a big field, run at a strong gallop is probably the ideal recipe for success with this horse. His draw on the stands side looks a positive too. The reliable Chessman heads the long list of potential dangers.

Selection: Ice Cold In Alex 9/1

Anglesey Stakes (4pm)

This doesn't look a particularly strong renewal. Pistoletto made heavy weather of landing short odds last time. He got upset in the stalls that day. It's reasonable to assume that effected his performance.

He looks the one here. Roman Turbo showed the benefits of a barrier trial on debut at the course recently. Michael Halford usually leaves plenty to work on though. An improved effort can see him home in second.

Selection: Pistoletto 8/11

Hey Gaman

Minstrel Stakes (4.35pm)

Hey Gaman is a rock solid performer. He may enjoy a tactical advantage here, and will prove very hard to catch. Romanised brings genuine Group 1 form to the party. He's an obvious danger.

Selection: Hey Gaman

Irish Oaks (5.10pm) Antonia De Vega is a talented, progressive filly. Any rain that falls is a positive. She shapes like a likely improver at this 12 furlong trip. Iridessa boasts strong form. The extra yardage should help too. She's greatly feared.

Selection: Antonia De Vega 12/1

Ladies Derby (5.45pm)

Perfect Tapatino has been a bit in and out this season. He enjoys a fair class edge on most of the opposition here. On a going day he would prove hard to stop. Royal Illusion is unexposed on the flat.

Selection: Perfect Tapatino 13/2

EBF Fillies Maiden (6.20pm)

A weak looking maiden. Mia Maria showed a bit of promise in a backend maiden last term. It's a bit worrying she hasn't been seen since. In the hope that all is well, she rates the selection.

Selection: Mia Maria
