British jockeys championship leader Jim Crowley is believed to have created his own piece of history at Newcastle by riding his 46th winner in a calendar month on Castleacre.
Records show that Gordon Richards and Fred Archer managed 45 winners in a month, while in modern times the best Anthony McCoy managed was 41.
Crowley has been unstoppable in his march towards a maiden title this year and while his main rival Silvestre de Sousa was also on the scoresheet at Gosforth Park, Crowley made sure he would remember the night for a different reason.
