Air Force Blue waiting on quick ground for Newmarket

Aidan O'Brien is hoping the ground at Newmarket will be quick enough to allow Air Force Blue to run in next month's Darley July Cup.

O'Brien had hoped champion juvenile Air Force Blue would make his mark in the mile division this year, but he failed to sparkle on his return in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket in April.

He tried a mile again in the Irish equivalent for his next run but he raced keenly on soft ground and was again well beaten.

Air Force Blue was supplemented for the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot, but he was ruled out of last Friday's Group One, which was won by Quiet Reflection, on account of the good to soft ground.

"He won't run again until the ground is good or faster, but we are happy with him," said O'Brien.

"Hopefully, the next target for him will be the July Cup."
