James Reveley picked up a winning spare ride after Maggio defied his advancing years to take victory in the Betfred Handicap Chase for trainer Patrick Griffin.
Originally the mount of Brian Hughes, who was stood down after taking a tumble aboard Urban Hymn in the first race, the 11-year-old proved to be a more than willing partner for Reveley in the Listed event.
After moving with menace throughout the extended three-mile contest the 50-1 winner cruised into the lead past Virak between the final two fences.
Steadied into the last Maggio - running in the colours of 2013 Grand National hero Auroras Encore - popped over it in satisfactory style before crossing the line 12 lengths to the good of Virak.
Reveley said: "It was quite easy for him. He loved the ground - it's really softened up.
"They went a million miles an hour early on and he appreciated just being left alone and he jumped like a buck.
"It's bad news for Brian, who took a horrible fall earlier, so speedy recovery to him.
"I used to ride the horse a long time ago and it's good to get back on him."
