Leicester officials are pinning their hopes on strong winds drying out the waterlogged areas of the course to allow their jumps meeting on Wednesday to go ahead.

An inspection has been called for 7.45am on Tuesday as the hurdles and chase courses are currently unraceable.

Clerk of the course Jimmy Stevenson said: "We're still not brilliant at the moment, though we are better than we were on Sunday and we're hanging our hopes on the forecast which is for gale-force winds - they would be perfect for us.

"We are going to have another look in 24 hours and hopefully have a more positive view of things and we've got another 24 hours after that as well.

"If we had two windy days we'd have a chance.

"There's only the odd chance of a shower, but the forecast is for it to be mainly windy and that's what we are banking on at the moment."
