Timmy Murphy was banned for 14 days by the stewards at Kempton on Thursday evening following his ride on Packing in the #10 Free Bet At 32RedSport.com Maiden Stakes.

The officials ruled the former top jumps jockey had failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures to obtain the best possible placing on the Jamie Osborne-trained colt, who had been unplaced in two previous starts.

Sent off at 100-1, Murphy's mount was settled through the early stages with a couple of runners behind him, before eventually finishing fifth, beaten five and three-quarter lengths by odds-on winner Tailwind.

The stewards' received a report from the veterinary officer that Murphy's mount had lost an off-fore shoe during the race, and that this had been reported at scale by the rider.

The stewards' report said Murphy stated his instructions were "to drop in, make sure the colt was settled and get him to run on and do his best work at the finish", that Packing "was running keenly in the early stages and he was able to settle him approaching the three-furlong pole, adding "he had tried to make his run between horses but was unable to do so and had to switch to his right to make his run to the line."

The report said Osborne's representative had stated he was unaware of the riding instructions given to Murphy and was, therefore, unable to comment upon whether the rider had complied with the instructions given.

Osborne was found in breach of the rules in respect of failing to inform his representative of the rider's instructions and fined #290.
