Adam Beschizza put the gloss on a memorable few weeks after the jockey completed the 'autumn double' in the Betfred Cesarewitch at Newmarket.
Suitably inspired by his Cambridgeshire triumph aboard Third Time Lucky towards the end of September, Beschizza emphatically added to his gains with a 50-1 triumph in one of the toughest races of the season.
Top weight Oriental Fox enjoyed a welter of support before the off and very nearly looked like landing a monster gamble.
But it was big outsider Grumeti who triumphed by the most slender of margins after a lengthy photo-finish, with Quick Jack back in third.
King's inmate, who is markedly more celebrated for his hurdles and chase achievements, stayed on all the way in the two-and-a-quarter-mile heat as Nearly Caught launched an early bid for home.
However, Oriental Fox and Grumeti were soon bustled into contention and the pair were neck and neck in the shadow of the post, with just a short head separating the protagonists.
Beshcizza said: "It's the autumn double. It's happened, so I'm over the moon. I sat bit handier than I'd have liked - Mr King said to take my time - but he's seen it out.
"He's not ran in two and a half months and I think if he was in a Flat yard you'd think he'd need it (the run), but he came here as fit as a flea."
Glamorous Approach (15-2) led home an Irish-trained one-two when victorious by a length and a quarter in the Listed Dubai Zetland Stakes.

Aidan O'Brien's Landofhopeandglory was all the rage for the Listed race but Ryan Moore had to work hard a long way from home and was well held by the Jim Bolger-trained winner.
Bolger said: "She's a lovely filly. The extra couple of furlongs have been a big help and she always looked like the winner. She's an Oaks filly and she will love the mile and a half."
Gifted Master made every yard of the running to follow up his sales race success of last week and bring up a hat-trick in the Group Three Vision Autumn Stakes.
Trainer Hugo Palmer said: "He adores racing, but I think that will be it (for the season). "He can't run in the Guineas (he is a gelding) but he can run in the trials. The Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot will probably be his main target next year."
Chris Wall's decision to swerve the Oh So Sharp Stakes with Mix And Mingle was vindicated by victory in the Dubai EBF Fillies' Nursery Handicap.
Wall said: "We will put her away for next year but something like the Sandringham (Royal Ascot) might be for her as she is a filly for the summer."
William Buick stole the riding honours with a Newmarket treble. A few hours after Gifted Master's success, Mistrusting (4-1) won the Vision EBF Stallions Boadicea Fillies' Stakes to give Charlie Appleby some solace following Emotionless' no-show in the Dewhurst.
The Godolphin trainer said: "She's been a consistent filly this year and her only disappointing run was her last start at Doncaster, where the ground had dried out too much. That might be her last run as she deserves to go to the sheds now."
With Jamie Spencer having been stood down due to illness, deputy Buick then caused a bit of a stir when claiming the Group Three Darley Stakes aboard big outsider Energia Davos.
Eventual runner-up Sovereign Debt and Mutakayyef jousted for the lead once most of the field realigned, but Jane Chapple-Hyam's 40-1 chance came from seemingly nowhere to score by three-quarters of a length.
Chapple-Hyam said: "We won this with Mull Of Killough and it's nice to come back and win it again. We did think about going to Australia, but we decided to keep him here as he's an older horse and it made sense not to go there on firm ground.
"We might take a penalty and go for the James Seymour Stakes (Newmarket) or there's a Listed race at Leopardstown to think about."
