Legatissimo claimed the Qatar Nassau Stakes at Glorious Goodwood as the 2-1 favourite ran out a most impressive winner.

Although renewing rivalry with Diamondsandrubies, her conqueror in the Pretty Polly Stakes, as well clashing with French Oaks heroine Star Of Seville, the David Wachman-trained three-year-old proved a cut above with a performance in line with the one that saw her clinch the Qipco 1000 Guineas.

Star Of Seville, after mastering an early battle with Arabian Queen, took the field along in the mile-and-a-quarter contest with Wayne Lordan content on anchoring the daughter of Danehill Dancer at the rear of the field.

As Frankie Dettori aboard the long-time leader started to issue distress signals, like many of his rivals approaching the run to the final two furlongs, Lordan sat almost motionless as his mount moved powerfully into contention.

Once the 'go' button was pressed, the response was immediate and within a matter of strides the race was over as Legatissimo demonstrated her rapid turn off foot to quickly put daylight between herself and her rivals.

The Aidan O'Brien-trained Wedding Vow (10-1) stayed on late in the day, but finished two-and-a-quarter lengths adrift of the winner.

Wachman said: "She's a wonderful filly and has loads of class. She's won a Guineas and won a Nassau, so you can't say she's been that unlucky, beaten two short heads, but still.

"She has a very high cruising speed and quickens well off it. Ten furlongs or a mile is made for her.

"She has a lot of options, she could go for the Matron, she could go anywhere, there's plenty of good races for those fillies and mares.

"I'll speak to the owners and we'll see. She's a good filly and I suppose the good ones keep improving.

"She is a class filly and was silky smooth today, while Wayne Lordan gave her a great ride. When he asked her the question she just exploded forward.

"Ryan (Moore) has given her some wonderful rides, but I am very happy for Wayne as he deserves his chance.

"She was pretty good in the Guineas and good in the Oaks, but this was visually very impressive. She is entered in all these races, but I will have to speak to the owners as their three brains will be better than mine."

Lordan, deputising for the injured Moore, was full of praise for the manner of Legatissimo's victory

He said: "She's a very high-class filly, she travels and has plenty of speed. She quickened up well when I asked her.

"She has everything, she was just unfortunate to lose out by a short head on two occasions, but she is back to her best again.

"I rode this filly earlier in her career, it's unfortunate Ryan Moore is out with his injury, but I was delighted to get back on her."
