Trainer Jessica Harrington and daughter Kate teamed up in glorious fashion to take the featured Connacht Hotel Qualified Riders' Handicap race on day one of the Galway Festival with Modem.
The five-year-old was sent off a 5-1 chance at the bottom of the weights for the two-mile contest and turned in a power-packed display for her proud connections.
Wood Breizh held a slight initiative off the bend, but the grey was overwhelmed by Ted Veale, Awesome Star and Modem inside the final 250 yards.
But it was the latter who held the momentum when it mattered as Kate Harrington kept her companion up to his work to defeat runner-up Awesome Star by a neck.
Ted Veale, the 4-1 favourite, was not far away in third spot, while Wood Breizh stayed on doggedly for fourth.
Modem's sights will now be briskly switched towards the Guinness Galway Hurdle on Thursday.
Jessica Harrington said: "Everything we wanted to happen in the race happened.
"I said, 'Jump out, get a place on the rails', and it was absolutely brilliant. Kate got out and he was great, the little horse.
"He absolutely battled to the line and he's a smashing little horse. We're trying to go for the big-race double.
"He's had a rest from Cheltenham to Killarney and we've been keeping him for this. This was the plan but I didn't think he'd ever get into this race."
Kate Harrington added: "You need some luck in this race, but I jumped out and got a perfect position.
"Hopefully he'll run on Thursday and he'd have a right chance. I always dreamt one day I would won this race but I can't believe it's happened."
Elsewhere on the opening day, Dermot Weld got off the mark for the week with impressive Claregalwayhotel.ie EBF Maiden winner True Solitaire.
The 6-4 second favourite came here on the back of a promising debut run at Gowran Park and proved much too good this time around, settling matters at the furlong marker before stretching away by four and three quarter lengths.
Weld chalked up his second winner of the evening when Harasava (9-4 fav) displayed a really good attitude to see off the persistent challenge of Torcedor by half a length.
Bachasson confirmed the favourable impression he created at Sligo earlier in the month when kicking off the festival with a smart display in the opening Galwaybayhotel.com & Radissonhotelgalway.com Novice Hurdle.
Ruby Walsh always appeared confident aboard the 5-4 favourite who jumped and travelled with aplomb throughout the two mile event and the pair drew some 16 lengths clear of market rival Zafayan on the run-in.
16-1 shot Romiac sprang something of a surprise when lowering the colours of hot-favourite Tadaany in the Claytonhotelgalway.ie Handicap.
The latter looked the likely winner when setting sail for home a fair way out but Sheila Lavery's gelding fairly waltzed by when they turned in and ran out a ready three and three quarter length victor.
Beckwith Star (7-1) was all heart when just holding off the late bid of Plain Sailing by a head in a thrilling finish to the Easyfix Rubber Products Handicap Hurdle.
