Peter Chapple-Hyam fears Solow the most as he prepares Arod to take on the best milers around in the Qatar Sussex Stakes at Goodwood next week.
The Newmarket trainer is pitching his impressive Ascot Summer Mile winner against Freddy Head's top-class grey and Aidan O'Brien's multiple Group One winner Gleneagles in the eagerly-awaited Group One clash of the generations.
And Chapple-Hyam believes Solow, the Queen Anne Stakes winner, is one to beat rather than dual Guineas winner Gleneagles who he reckons could feel the effects of having a series of hard races in quick succession in his three-year-old career.
"Solow has been a revelation, he's just a very good horse and Gleneagles gets the 8lb weight difference," Chapple-Hyam told At The Races.
"He had a hard race in the Irish Guineas, but put it to bed very quickly on ground he didn't like.
"I was impressed with him at Ascot, but he's a three-year-old and he's had three hardish races.
"I think Solow is probably the one to beat because he's done it all."
Chapple-Hyam is hoping the ground will be rattling fast at Goodwood on Wednesday week.
"The faster the ground the better, he loves it," he said.
"When there's any cut in the ground he's not the same horse and if that did happen, he wouldn't run I'd have thought."
Richard Hannon will test the going before making a decision on the participation of Lockinge winner Night Of Thunder, with Hannon hoping for some give in the ground.
"We'll wait and see on the ground," the Marlborough trainer said.
"There's no point talking about it until we've seen the ground."
