Breeders' Cup Turf winner Main Sequence has been retired after sustaining a tendon injury.
The six-year-old notched up four Grade One wins in America last year after transferring from the care of David Lanigan, who trained him to finish second to Camelot in the Derby at Epsom back in 2012.
Main Sequence capped a memorable year for new handler Graham Motion when winning at the Breeders' Cup meeting at Santa Anita last November and while he won a Grade Two on his return this season, he cut little ice in the Dubai Sheema Classic in March before thoroughly disappointing in the United Nations Stakes at Monmouth earlier this month.
Alan Cooper, spokesman for owners, the Niarchos Family's Flaxman Holdings, confirmed the Aldebaran gelding would now bow out.
He told www.herringswellstables.com: "Following Main Sequence's poor performance in the United Nations Handicap, a thorough veterinary examination was carried out last week. A tendon tear was discovered and the decision has been taken to retire him.
"The 2014 Eclipse Champion Turf Male and Eclipse Champion Older Male has given his owners great pleasure throughout his career."
