The Qatar Goodwood Cup is next on the agenda for Simenon following another tremendous effort in defeat at Royal Ascot.
The Willie Mullins-trained eight-year-old was beaten just a neck by Estimate when runner-up in the Gold Cup two years ago and was fourth behind Leading Light in the same race last summer.
After winning on his next start over hurdles at Tipperary, Simenon then spent almost a year on the sidelines with injury, but following a pleasing comeback at Sandown in May, he ran another excellent race in the Gold Cup to finish fourth once more.
The Goodwood Cup on 30 July, in which he could renew rivalry with Gold Cup winner Trip To Paris, is now on the agenda.
Owner Nick Peacock, whose horses run under the Wicklow Bloodstock banner, said: "Considering how far back he was and how far wide he had to come, I thought it was a jolly good run and he could, and probably should, have finished a bit closer.
"It was another great run from the horse and I think we'll probably look at the Goodwood Cup for him now.
"He wants good ground. There isn't a lot else coming up for him and we know he stays every yard of two miles."
Simenon was fourth in the Melbourne Cup two years ago and Peacock already has one eye on another crack at the 'race that stops a nation' in November.
"It depends on how he gets on, but I certainly wouldn't dismiss it," said Peacock.
"There is only one Melbourne Cup and neither Simenon nor myself are getting any younger!
"If everything goes well between now and then, I think there's every chance he could go back to Australia."
