The €100,000 Magners Ulster Derby went the way of Botany Bay at Down Royal today.
Botany Bay had never won a race before but he shed his maiden tag in style as he took the Flat feature at Down Royal under Niall McCullagh for trainer Charles O'Brien and his mother Jacqueline.
Having opened on-course at 12-1, Botany Bay was backed into 7-1 at the off and he kept on strongly under McCullagh to beat 7-4 favourite Fields Of Athenry by one length.
Brightly Shining completed the placings a further half a length back in third under Rory Cleary for Jim Bolger.
