Hurricane Fly will be assessed during the winter before connections consider their next move with the great hurdler.
Willie Mullins' 22-times Grade One winner made no significant impression in the French Champion Hurdle at Auteuil on Sunday, finishing sixth behind Un Temps Pour Tout.
Now an 11-year-old, some observers had considered retirement a possibility after his run at the weekend.
But Patrick Mullins, the trainer's son and assistant, said: "We'll give him a break now. It was just the end of a long season.
"He grabbed at the first a bit and Ruby (Walsh) said he never travelled with him.
"We'll get him back in and see how he is in the winter.
"He is out in the field now at the minute with all the others like On His Own."
