Andre Fabre's High Celebrity, one of the leading fancies for the Qipco 1000 Guineas, will miss the race.
Placed in the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes and the Cheveley Park Stakes last summer, Fabre was hoping she would make a strong bid to give him back-to-back wins in the Classic after Miss France last year.
However, she suffered a setback two weeks ago and while Fabre was hopeful of the problem clearing up in time to get her to Newmarket, he has now admitted defeat.
"She will have to be rested," he said.
"I was hoping we could get her there but it didn't work.
"Obviously I hope to get her back as soon as possible, but to be honest I have no idea how long she will need.
"She suffers from a problem with her stifle."
