Carlito Brigante will not run in tomorrow's Grand National after being declared a non-runner shortly after 11am this morning.

The horse's trainer, Karen McLintock, confirmed that the horse was slightly lame and, after a veterinary check, they have decided not to take a risk in tomorrow's £1 million event.

"Sadly Carlito Brigante won't be running in the Grand National," said McLintock.

"He's slightly lame this morning. I think it might be his fetlock joint but I'm not sure. I'm on my way down to Leicester racecourse at the moment but my vet has checked him out.

"I'm absolutely floored to be honest. To get this close and then just miss out is heartbreaking."

The cut-off point for reserves to be let into the race was 9am this morning, hence there will be 39 runners in tomorrow's Aintree showpiece.

There is a further non-runner this afternoon in the Doom Bar Sefton Novices' Hurdle (4.40pm) and the Jonjo O'Neill Minella Rocco will not run after being declared sore by medics.
