Trainer Roger Varian has been dealt a big blow with the news that Qipco 1000 Guineas second-favourite Cursory Glance will miss the Classic.

Winner of the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot, the daughter of Distorted Humor gave Varian a Group One win in Ireland when landing the Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh in September.

Her form was continually franked and she looked certain to be a major player at Newmarket in May.

Speaking on www.varianstable.com, the trainer said: "Unfortunately Cursory Glance has sustained a fetlock injury during routine training. She will need time to recover which will rule her out of the English 1000 Guineas. The prognosis for a full recovery is excellent.

"The prospect of having her ready for the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot is very realistic and that will now be the plan."
