Leading Light is on course to lead a potentially strong Aidan O'Brien raiding party at Ascot on Saturday.

Last year's Ladbrokes St Leger hero has enjoyed some of his finest moments at the Berkshire track, lifting the Gold Cup at the Royal meeting in the summer, having won the Queen's Vase there 12 months earlier.

He was last seen beaten at odds-on in the Irish St Leger, where the winner Brown Panther was given a fine ride in front by Richard Kingscote, and has the two-mile Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup on his radar.

O'Brien, speaking at the Curragh, said: "He's in good form and hasn't done a lot since the Irish St Leger."

Outlining possible running plans for the glittering Champions Day card, O'Brien pointed to Ruler Of The World being in the picture for the Qipco Champion Stakes, with Kingsbarns for the Champion or the QEII and Chicquita in line for the Qipco British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes.

Future Champions Day takes place at Newmarket 24 hours earlier, where The Great War could represent Ballydoyle interests in the Middle Park, Gleneagles and War Envoy are in the running for the Dewhurst and Quality has the Fillies' Mile as a target.
